About Dabigatran
Dabigatran is used to help prevent strokes, and to prevent the clotting of blood, especially if you suffer from fluctuations in blood pressure along with irregular heartbeat. It is known to effectively treat blood clot or deep vein thrombosis in the veins of your arms and legs. It can prevent the coagulation of blood in the lungs thereby controlling respiratory problems caused as a result. It is also used to inhibit the hardening of arteries, and the lumping of blood especially after undergoing a heart valve replacement surgery, a knee replacement surgery or a hip replacement surgery. The drug blocks the actions of a coagulating protein called thrombin to main the smooth circulation of blood throughout the body. The medicine is in the form of a capsule which needs to be taken orally, with or without food as directed by the doctor. It is important to avoid antacids as they may interfere with the functions of the drug.
Side effects of this drug may include the thinning of the blood making the patient prone to easy bleeding and bruising. Some reactions such as nose bleeding may occur. Excessive bleeding from cuts and wounds, or bleeding gums along with unusual pain and discomfort in the body may also happen which needs immediate medical attention.
