Deriphyllin Ax Tablet Sr is a combination medicine that consists of Ambroxol, Theophylline and Etofylline. It is primarily used in the treatment of Asthma and Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD).

How does this medication work?
This medication is an agent that causes diffusion of thick mucus. Uncontrolled quantity of nitric oxide (NO) is related to inflammation and other kinds of disruptions of the functioning of the airways. It inhibits the activation of guanylate cyclase which is nitric oxide-dependent. It also posses antiasthmatic and bronchodilator properties and is used for treating asthma, shortness of breath and chest tightness especially in newborns. It works by preventing phosphodiesterase enzymes which in turn causes bronchodilation, cardiac stimulation and vasodilation thereby relaxing muscles and opening air passages. Lastly it causes causes bronchodilation by competitively inhibiting type III and type IV phosphodiesterase (PDE). PDE is an enzyme that leads to the breakdown of cyclic AMP in the smooth muscle cells. It also counters bronchoconstriction by binding to adenosine A2B receptors and antagonizing adenosine.
