DEVIRY

Deviry is a medication used to treat irregular bleeding and abnormal menstruation. Available in tablet form, common side-effects of this drug are fatigue, dizziness, headaches and irregular cycles.

Uses

Medroxyprogesterone is used to treat the cancer in the breast, kidney (in men and women both), in the lining of the womb (endometrial cancer), cancer that spreads to other parts of the body (metastatic cancer) in post-menopausal women. It also treats conditions like absence of menstrual periods (amenorrhea), irregular periods, abnormal uterine bleeding and decreases the risk of endometrial hyperplasia (a condition that may lead to uterine cancer) while taking estrogens and endometriosis (painful disorder in which endometrium a tissue that normally lines inside the uterus, grows outside the uterus). It is also used for long acting contraceptive.

Side Effects

Unexpected or unusual vaginal bleeding or spotting, nervousness, Cushingoid syndrome, feeling thirsty, depression, deep-vein thrombosis, change in appetite, change in sex drive, palpitations, breast pain and tenderness, acne and hair loss, facial hair growth, yellowing of the skin or eyes indigestion, menstrual irregularities, headache, weight gain, cramps in calves at night, tiredness, difficulty sleeping, vomiting, milk secretion when not pregnant or breastfeeding, dry mouth, constipation, diarrhea, drowsiness, high fever, euphoria, loss of concentration, vision disorders, fluid retention

Expert Advice

It is advised to swallow each tablet whole without chewing and consume it daily at the same time. Avoid the usage of medroxyprogesterone if you are allergic to it or any other similar hormone or the ingredients present in the medicine. Avoid smoking when you are on the course of this medicine as smoking increases the risk of blood clots. This medicine can also pass into body fluids (including urine, feces, vomit, semen, vaginal fluid) so, the patients are suggested to wear rubber gloves while cleaning up body fluids, handling contaminated trash or laundry or changing diapers. Wash your hands properly before and after removing gloves and wash the soiled clothing and linens separately from another laundry. Handling of body fluids should be avoided by a woman who is pregnant or who is planning a pregnancy. Using of condoms is recommended during sexual activity to avoid exposure to body fluids. Avoid baby planning when you take a course of medroxyprogesterone. The whole treatment might require 8 to 10 weeks before any effect can be seen.

How it works?

Medroxyprogesterone belongs to the group of medicines called progestogens which act like progesterone, a natural sex hormone. It might slow down the growth of certain tumours which are sensitive to these hormones. As a contraceptive, it prevents an egg from fully developing and releasing from the ovaries. It changes the lining of the womb and thickens the mucus at the entrance of the womb which makes pregnancy less likely to occur.

hello. I have pcod my age 21. I took deviry 10mg for 5days since I do not hve periods since 3months. I got periods aftr 10days stopping tablet. Bt the problem is when I go to bed its ok when I get up from sleep there is an heavy flow. Is this any problem please suggest me.

After delay in periods, the bleeding is expected to be heavy. When you get up from sleep you experience heavy flow is because of collected blood. But you should start treatment of irregular periods.

My wife cycle is not regular since her first menstruation, always having tablet deviry 10mg as prescribed by physician for regular periods. We are trying for a baby since 3 year but not yet succeeded instead of consulting lots of expert. All kind of test prescribed by doctors to her/me are normal. Hi, Dr. my course of Deviry tablets of 3 cycle was finished on 21st Nov and my last period start on 7th dec. I have done unprotected sex on 17th dec in missionary position, according to 27days monthly periods cycle next periods start on 3rd Jan. Pregnancy is a matter of chance. There could be pregnancy or there could not be, so continue doing sex in fertile period and wait for next periods to come before doing pregnancy test.

you may sometimes need to wait for even 10 days after stopping medicines for periods to start. So wait for a few days for period. Breast pain may be because of that. Need not worry

Menses can be missed either because of hormonal changes or even stress or illness or even if you have put on some weight in recent times then also menses can be missed. All these problems are temporary and menses will come on its own. You can wait for another 15 days before you can take tablet deviry to get menses. If this is happening again and again then there is a possibility of pcod which can be diagnosed with ultrasound and fsh, lh tests. I hope there is no issue of pregnancy here.

Hi, I am from Guwahati ,I am 20 years old. Actually I had an intercourse with my boyfriend,but my problem had started from last year September, I had intrcrse with my bf on septmbr 2nd week n period date was on 25th bt I did not HD regular periods from dan, on 3rd decmbr I went to dctr he gave medicine name Deviry , after tkn mdcn I hv periods on 10th decmbr, again on January 1st wk we had intrcrse again, from dat day again my periods is not regular, till now olso I m not having periods, I HV tkn DAT mdcn again on 13th Feb bt till nw no result, I have tsted for pregnancy bt its negative, I am not able to understand my problem, plzz tell what my problem is?

If you start tab deviry 10 mg for three days twice a day today and menses will come on 14-16 any day which may last till 18-20. Instead if you do not get menses spontaneously by 13 th you can start same tablet and continue till you do not want them to come.

First you need to check for pregnancy. If she is not pregnant then you can give her tablet deviry for 5 days to get menses. If she is pregnant then it can be aborted with abortion pills till 7 weeks from her last menses.

Your periods are not regular. I advise you to do meditation for mental strength by doing slow and deep breathing relaxation exercises in the morning. Take proper balanced vegetarian diet. Take 8 to 10 glasses of water daily. Avoid garlic and red chilly at home and avoid non veg and eggs.

Deviry is medroxy progesterone acetate to be taken twice a day for 5 days. Menses will come within 7 days of stopping the tablets if you r not pregnant.
