About Elegelin 5mg Tablet

Elegelin 5mg Tablet is a drug that is mostly used in the treatment of Parkinson’s disease. It helps to prevent the muscular tremors, loss of coordination and balance and the stiffness of certain body parts. The medicine is generally administered along with a combination of other medicines. It cannot be provided to patients who had a stroke recently or have a family history of unstable mental conditions like bipolar diseases or schizophrenia.

Elegelin 5mg Tablet is contraindicated in patients who have suffered or are suffering from malignant melanoma, abnormal Movements of facial muscles, irregular heart rhythm, hypotension, impaired kidney function, impaired liver function and in case of allergic reaction to monoamine oxidase inhibitors. Additionally it is known to cause adverse effects if used together with drugs like antidepressants, other MAO inhibitors, appetite suppressants, triptans used in treatment of migraines, etc. Therefore, it is very essential to consult a doctor prior to the usage of the drug regarding the dosage as the correct dosage varies from person to person based on their medical history and health condition. The likely side effects from the usage of the drug are joint pain, insomnia, peripheral edema, depression, dyspepsia and cough. Additionally in case it is used with other drugs that can increase serotonin levels in the body, serotonin syndrome can also manifest as a side effect.

    Elegelin 5mg Tablet is an antiparkinson medication that irreversibly inhibits monoamine oxidase type B (MAO-B). It binds to MAO-B and hence prevents the microsomal metabolism of dopamine thus increase dopaminergic activity in the CNS.
