About Epalrestat
Epalrestat, is a derivative of carboxylic acid which is used for hyperglycemic related complications like neuropathy, retinopathy or nephropathy. This medicine reduces intracellular sorbitol accumulations significantly. There is an improvement in the morphological abnormalities of the nerves once a diabetic is treated with this medicine.
Epalrestat, cannot be used in case one is hypersensitive, which is a contraindication. This cannot be used in case you suffer from severe hepatic insufficiency. You need to consult a doctor before taking this medicine in case you are breast feeding or are pregnant.
Epalrestat, is taken orally, with the dosage depending on your medical condition and response to the treatment. This should not be missed or discontinued at your own will. The medicine has to be taken at fixed times so that the medicine is effective and sustains the body balance of the patient.
