Estriol
About Estriol
Estriol is basically a steroid, a weaker form of the naturally-produced female hormone estrogen, and is used to help restore the natural balance of this hormone in the human body. It works by mimicking the activity of the hormone estrogen. It is generally used to treat symptoms associated with a lack of the hormone estrogen in women who have undergone menopause, or after they have had surgeries to have their ovaries removed.
Estriol is available for use in tablet form, or as a cream for vaginal use, as prescribed by the doctor. Before using Estriol tell your doctor if you are using any prescription drugs, non-prescription drugs, or other herbal and dietary pills and supplements, if you are allergic to certain food items or substances, or if you are pregnant and/or breastfeeding. Estriol should be used with caution in women who have endometrial hyperplasia, kidney disease, circulatory disease, asthma, diabetes, high blood pressure, endometriosis, blood clots, or cancer of the lining of the womb.
Common side effects of Estriol include itching of the skin around the vagina, increased vaginal discharge, gall bladder problems, abdominal pain, leg cramps, headache, swollen or tender breasts, and irregular heartbeat.
