About Eszopiclone
Eszopiclone is used for treating insomnia and its symptoms. Its symptoms include difficulty in falling asleep and difficulty in staying asleep during the night. It is a hypnotic drug. It works by increasing certain naturally occurring chemicals in the brain that cause sleep.
Do not take this medicine if you are allergic to it or if you are already taking other hypnotic drugs. Before taking this medicine, make sure your doctor knows if you have a history of mental disorders, drug, alcohol or any other substance abuse, if you generally remain very ill, or you have a history of lung or liver problems. This medicine is not to be prescribed for chronic use in the elderly.
Some common side effects that this medicine may cause are decrease in sexual desire, common cold symptoms, dizziness, drowsiness, feeling sleepy the next day, dry mouth, headache, light-headedness, indigestion, nervousness and an unpleasant taste in mouth.
The dosage is based on your age, medical condition, liver function, other drugs you are taking, and response to treatment. Avoid taking more amount than prescribed to prevent occurrence of any side effects. Usually, the starting dose is 1 mg before bedtime. If you are prescribed 3 mg then you should avoid doing activities that require you to stay alert at all times.
