Fludarabine

Prescription vs OTC : Prescription by Doctor required

About Fludarabine

Fludarabine is an antimetabolite that is used in patients who have a specific kind of leukemia, who are unresponsive to any other kind of treatment, or those who have been taking other medicines, but their diseases have aggravated instead of diminishing. Fludarabine works by effectively stopping reproduction of the cancer cells, thus killing the cell, and preventing the disease from progressing.

Fludarabine is generally administered in the form of an injection at the hospital, or the doctor’s office. In certain cases, Fludarabine is also prescribed for home usage, in which case the patient has to be very particular about following the exact procedures outlined by the doctor.

The side effects of Fludarabine include dizziness, tiredness, drowsiness, confusion, agitation, vision problems, or in rare cases, even seizures. A few of these effects can worsen if Fludarabine is used in combination with alcohol, or certain other medicines.

Fludarabine can also significantly reduce the formation of platelets in blood, so when taking Fludarabine, it is necessary to avoid any activities that might cause bleeding or bruising. In rarer cases, Fludarabine can have an adverse effect on the body’s immune system as well.
