How does this medication work?
This drug is a prodrug that metabolizes to rhein that is worked by reducing cartilage destruction. It blocks the interleukin-1 beta protein’s action that is responsible for the destruction of cartilage and inflammation-causing osteoarthritis like degenerative joint disorders. The drug is specific in action and does not inhibit the synthesis of prostaglandin. Secondly, it is an amino sugar used for supplemental treatment of osteoarthritis. It is an important precursor in glycosaminoglycan biosynthesis. Glycosaminoglycans are a major component of joint cartilages, hence glucosamine as a supplement can help rebuild cartilage and treat osteoarthritis. MSM additionally lowers inflammation (swelling) of the joints.
