About Homacid 2% W/V Eye Drop

Homacid 2% W/V Eye Drop is an anticholinergic medication used before and after certain eye surgeries, before eye examinations and to treat certain eye conditions such as uveitis. It works by dilating the pupil of the eye.

This medicine is found to also have a few side effects. Some common side effects are eye irritation, stinging, burning, extreme thirst, mood changes like confusion, agitation, redness of the eye, persistent dry mouth, temporary blurred vision, fast and irregular heartbeat.

Tell your doctor if you are allergic to Homacid 2% W/V Eye Drop, or to any belladonna alkaloids or if you have a personal or family history of glaucoma, brain damage, Down's syndrome, other eye conditions like keratoconus or spastic paralysis. Before using this medication, tell your doctor of all prescription and over the counter products you may use. Also tell keep him informed of any other allergies that you may have.

For those who are prescribed to use this medication on a regular schedule, it is advised to apply it 2 to 3 times every day, up to every 3 to 4 hours, or as directed by your doctor. If you are wearing contact lenses, remove them before using eye drops. Wait at least 15 minutes before replacing your contact lenses.

    Homacid 2% W/V Eye Drop is a competitive antagonist of muscarinic acetylcholine receptors. It blocks cholinergic signalling pathways, blocking the response of iris sphincter muscles and making the pupils unresponsive to light after dilation.
