About Hydroxocobalamin

Hydroxocobalamin is a dietary supplement for Vitamin B12 deficiency and pernicious anaemia. It is also used in cases of cyanide poisoning, and in cases where there are high levels of homocysteine in the patient’s blood. It may also be effective in dealing with, and preventing, age-related macular degeneration, along with other vitamin supplements.

It is administered via injection into muscles or vein. A quantity of 1 mg is injected per dose. Normal doses are considered safe for pregnant women. Side effects of Hydroxocobalamin include diarrhoea, low levels of potassium in blood, allergic reactions, high blood pressure, swelling, irritation, and redness of eyes, and skin problems like urticaria. Use caution if you are allergic to the medicine. Symptoms of allergic reactions are edema, urticaria, anaphylaxis, chest tightness, and rashes.

There are no contraindications to this medicine, but ensure that you keep your doctor informed about your history of allergic reactions, if any. There are no recorded symptoms of adverse effects of Hydroxocobalamin - the symptoms are usually those of the side effects.
