Itopride
About Itopride
Itopride offers relief to patients who suffer from gastro-esophageal reflux disease (GERD) and experience symptoms like heart burn and uneasiness in the stomach. It also treats conditions like functional dyspepsia, gastroparesis as well as nausea or vomiting which may occur in patients who have undergone chemotherapy or some sort of surgery recently.
The drug helps with digestion as it increases the rate at which the stomach empties its contents into the intestines.
Patients who are taking Itopride generally experience a few side effects like headache, diarrhea, pain in the abdomen and nausea. In very rare cases a patient may develop jaundice, skin allergies or gynacomastia as a side effect of Itopride. In case of any severe side effects make sure to seek medical help immediately.
Itopride is not suitable for patients who suffer from Parkinson’s disease or those who have an obstruction in their stomach or intestine. Inform your doctor if you are allergic to the drug or any substance used in it as well. Itopride is not advised for pregnant women unless it is absolutely required. It is generally not prescribed to nursing mothers as well as it can harm the child. Itopride cannot be prescribed to any child who is below the age of 16 years, and in the case of elderly individuals it should be prescribed with caution as it can lead to severe side effects.
It is best that you take Itopride as prescribed. In the event that you miss a dose take it as soon as possible. If you remember to take it at the time of your next dose, skip the dose you missed and go back to your normal schedule. The dosage that is prescribed by the doctor varies from individual to individual depending on their age and the symptoms they are experiencing.
