Secondly, this drug binds to the histamine H1 receptor, which prevents the action from endogenous histamine, which is used to prevent the allergic symptoms from conditions such as urticaria and rhinitis. Thirdly, it works as an expectorant which reduces adhesiveness and surface tension of congealed mucus in upper respiratory tract to increase flow of mucous, stimulating and increasing efficiency of the cilia to remove the accumulated mucus. It also works by narrowing the swelling of blood vessels in the ear and nose, thereby providing great relief from discomfort. Lastly, it activates certain receptors in the brain that inhibit pain signals.
