Lescol Tablet Xl is used to bring the cholesterol level under control and increasing the quantity of good cholesterol also called high-density lipoprotein (HDL). It also normalises the level of triglycerides. The medicine is prescribed along with a suitable diet chart that helps to prevent the manufacturing of fatty substances in the body that can accumulate and cause heart blockages, hardening of arteries or veins. This in turn helps to prevent ischemic strokes or cardiac failure and keeps the heart functioning properly. The medicine can also be prescribed for some other purposes as per the discretion of your doctor. The medicine is available in a capsule form for oral intake, with or without food, as directed by your physician.
During the course of the treatment, you must abstain from the intake of alcohol, caffeine, smoking or tobacco. The medicine may affect the blood sugar level in diabetic patients. How does this medication work?
The active constituent of this medication is a synthetic antilipemic agent which competitively and selectively inhibits hydroxymethylglutaryl-coenzyme A (HMG-CoA) reductase, which is a rate-limiting step in cholesterol biosynthesis. Its inhibition decreases cholesterol levels and increases hepatic uptake of LDL cholesterol, reducing total cholesterol.
