Leuprorelin

Prescription vs OTC : Prescription by Doctor required

About Leuprorelin

Leuprorelin is used for the treatment of hormone-based tumour which includes prostate cancer, breast cancer, lymphoma, certain kinds of leukaemia, uterine fibroids, and endometriosis. This medicine is a synthetic version of a hormone called gonadotropin-releasing hormone (GnRH).

Apart from these, it is also used to treat the early onset of puberty. It is administered through an injection into a muscle or under the skin by a healthcare professional only. Prolonged usage leads to a substantial decline of testosterone in males and a decrease in estradiol in females.

It is also used to avoid premature ovulation in in-vitro fertilization processes. In some cases, this medication may be harmful if inhaled, can cause allergic skin reactions, asthma-like symptoms and breathing difficulties.

This drug is also used to delay puberty in transgender boys and girls until they are old enough to start hormone-replacement therapy. It has also been used on an experimental basis to reduce sexual urges in paedophiles and other kinds of paraphilias.
