About Met Xl 25 MG Tablet

The primary use of Met Xl 25 MG Tablet is to treat hypertension and angina pectoris. It is also prescribed as a preventive measure to treat myocardial infarction, atrial fibrillation, flutter, and symptomatic treatment of hypertrophic subaortic stenosis.

Met Xl 25 MG Tablet is prescribed to patients to improve heart function and control blood flow through the vessels. The drug helps in the treatment of hypertension, that is, high blood pressure and angina, that is, chest pain.

Met Xl 25 MG Tablet effectively blocks the action of a few body chemicals that occur naturally in the body. The medicine can be taken either before or after a meal. The dosage of the drug depends on the severity of the condition. The doctor may increase dosage as per requirement.

Over dosage of Met Xl 25 MG Tablet should be avoided. In case of accidental overdosage emergency medical care should be acquired. Patients with certain medical problems are generally not advised to take this drug. The medicine is not recommended for patients who have coronary heart disease or blood circulation issues.

      • Interaction with Medicine

        This medicine must not be concomitantly used along with the following:
        • CYP2D6 enzyme substrate
        • Clonidine:Hypertensive crisis after or during withdrawal of either agent.
        • Drugs which slow AV conduction (digoxin): effects may be additive with beta-blockers.
        • Fluoxetine may inhibit the metabolism of Met Xl 25 MG Tablet resulting in cardiac toxicity.
        • Glucagon: Met Xl 25 MG Tabletmay blunt the hyperglycemic action of glucagon.
        • Hydralazine may enhance the bioavailability of Met Xl 25 MG Tablet.
        • Insulin and oral hypoglycemics: Met Xl 25 MG Tablet may mask tachycardia from hypoglycemia.
        • Met Xl 25 MG Tablet reduces antipyrine's clearance by 18%.
        • NSAIDs (ibuprofen, indomethacin, naproxen, piroxicam) may reduce the antihypertensive effects of beta-blockers.
        • Oral contraceptives may increase the AUC and Cmax of Met Xl 25 MG Tablet.
        • Salicylates may reduce the antihypertensive effects of beta-blockers.
        • Sulfonylureas: Beta-blockers may alter response to hypoglycemic agents.
        • Verapamil or diltiazem may have synergistic or additive pharmacological effects when taken concurrently with beta-blockers; avoid concurrent I.V. use.
        • Amlodipine, Diltiazem, Aminophylline, Ergotamine also interacts with this medicine, thus should be avoided.
      • Interaction with Disease

        Those who suffer from Asthma, Heart Block, Heart Block, Liver disease, Glaucoma and High cholesterol and fat should not take this medicine.
      • Interaction with Food

        This medicine should be used with caution if you are taking vitamin and mineral supplement. Report the usage of supplements to the doctor so that dose adjustments and safety monitoring can be done. There should be a gap of at least 2 hours between the consumption of these two medicines.
