About Metosartan 50 Tablet

Metosartan 50 Tablet is primarily prescribe for the treatment of high blood pressure and angina pectoris. It also helps in preventing of myocardial infarction, atrial fibrillation, flutter, symptomatic treatment of hypertrophic subaortic stenosis. Metosartan 50 Tablet helps maintain optimal blood pressure levels in a person’s body. In patients who suffer from hypertension, it can lower the blood pressure.

Metosartan 50 Tablet works by widening and dilating the blood vessels, which relaxes them. It also helps the kidney flush out excess salt and water, thus reducing the blood pressure. Therefore, Metosartan Tablet is highly effective in treating hypertension.

The regular recommended dosage of Metosartan 50 Tablet is a 50 mg tablet, taken once a day. The doctor might increase the dosage to 100 mg, if you suffer from serious conditions of the heart.     Metosartan 50 Tablet displaces angiotensin II with very high affinity from its binding site at the AT1 receptor subtype, which is responsible for the known actions of angiotensin II. And it also works by blocking the beta receptors sites in the heart, blood vessels, and lungs. This results in inhibition of epinephrine resulting in relaxed blood vessels. Thus pressure is lowered and blood flow to the heart is improved.

        • Clonidine: Hypertensive crisis after or during withdrawal of either agent.
        • Drugs which slow AV conduction (digoxin): effects may be additive with beta-blockers.
        • Fluoxetine may inhibit the metabolism of Metosartan 50 Tablet resulting in cardiac toxicity.
        • Glucagon: Metosartan 50 Tablet may blunt the hyperglycemic action of glucagon.
        • Hydralazine may enhance the bioavailability of Metosartan 50 Tablet.
        • Insulin and oral hypoglycemics: Metosartan 50 Tablet may mask tachycardia from hypoglycemia.
        • Metosartan 50 Tablet reduces antipyrine's clearance by 18%.
        • NSAIDs (ibuprofen, indomethacin, naproxen, piroxicam) may reduce the antihypertensive effects of beta-blockers.
        • Oral contraceptives may increase the AUC and Cmax of Metosartan 50 Tablet.
        • Salicylates may reduce the antihypertensive effects of beta-blockers.
        • Sulfonylureas: Beta-blockers may alter response to hypoglycemic agents.
        • Verapamil or diltiazem may have synergistic or additive pharmacological effects when taken concurrently with beta-blockers; avoid concurrent I.V. use.

        Avoid abrupt discontinuation in patients with a history of CAD; slowly wean while monitoring for signs and symptoms of ischemia. Use caution in patients with PVD (can aggravate arterial insufficiency). Use cautiously in diabetics because it can mask prominent hypoglycemic symptoms. Can mask signs of thyrotoxicosis. Can cause fetal harm when administered in pregnancy. Use cautiously in the hepatically impaired. Use care with anesthetic agents which decrease myocardial function.
