How does this medication work?
This medication belongs to the class of an antiviral medication used for the treatment of various herpes infections like herpes zoster, herpes simplex virus 2, herpes labialis and frequent occurrence of herpes simplex in HIV patients. It is a prodrug belonging to the class of guanosine analogue. Therefore, once taken it gets converted into penciclovir which again changes when it reaches the virus cells in the body. The activated penciclovir blocks the action of DNA polymerase.
