About Mitomycin
Mitomycin is used in the treatment of stomach cancer and cancer of the pancreas, along with other drugs. The drug is essentially an anti-biotic, which blocks the growth of the cancer cells, and prevents the spread of the tumour.
Doctor’s generally do not recommend Mitomycin to patients who are allergic to it, or those who have a low level of platelets in the blood. Patients with severe bleeding issues and leukopenia are also not advised to take Mitomycin. If you have shingle or even chicken pox, the drug will not be prescribed to you.
The drug is given in the form of an injection by a nurse or a doctor. If you are taking the drug on your own, learn how to inject it from your doctor before you try. Avoid contact with skin, because Mitomycin can lead to a terrible reaction. If this does happen. Wash the affected area with plenty of water as well as soap for a minimum of about 15 minutes. Seek medical help thereafter.
Like all drugs, Mitomycin also leads to some minor as well as some major side effects. The minor side effects are appetite loss, vomiting and nausea, skin rashes, numbness in the toes and fingers and weakness. If you experience any major side effects like fever, chills, pain in the lower back and appearance of blood in the urine, get in touch with the doctor as soon as possible.
