About Nimotuzumab
Nimotuzumab is a humanized monoclonal antibody, which is used for the treatment and prevention of glioma, in both adults and children alike. Nimotuzumab is a highly-selective epidermal growth factor (EGF) receptor antagonist which works to increase angiogenesis, cellular proliferation, apoptosis and cell motility in malignant cells.
Nimotuzumab is administered in combination with radiotherapy or chemotherapy, with the dose depending on the patient’s condition and the doctor’s diagnosis. The medicine is distributed evenly in the heart, liver, bladder, kidneys and spleen.
Administration of Nimotuzumab should be exercised with caution in patients who have a history of murine monoclonal antibodies, patients with theracim hypersensitivity, as well as patients who have a history of diabetes and a history of cardiac diseases/problems.
Nimotuzumab should not be administered to women who are pregnant and/or breastfeeding. Common side effects of Nimotuzumab include fever, chills, nausea, vomiting, asthenia, hypotension or hypertension, flushing, dryness of mouth, rash, headache, fluctuation in blood pressure, dizziness and lightheadedness.
