How does this medication work?
It is a synthetic glucocorticoid that specifically binds to cytoplasmic receptors. This inhibits leukocyte entry at the inflammation site, interferes in inflammatory response mediator functioning, and reduces edema and scar tissues. It also works by strongly inhibiting the enzyme cytochrome P450 14α-demethylase which is responsible for conversion of lanosterol to ergosterol. Ergosterol is required for synthesis of the fungal cell wall and this inhibition results in eventual cell death
