About Orciprenaline
Orciprenaline, is also known as metaproterenol which is used to relieve symptoms associated with chronic bronchitis, asthma, emphysema, and other lung-related conditions.
This medication is a moderately selective adrenergic receptor agonist. It stimulates receptors found on the smooth muscle of the uterus, lungs, and vasculature supplying skeletal muscle, with minimal or no effect on α-adrenergic receptors.
The effects can usually be felt within 30 minutes after taking a dose and lasts for 3 to 6 hours. The usual dose for an adult is 10 mL, 3 or 4 times daily. Children 4 to 12 years old should take 5 mL 3 times daily, children over 12 years should take 10 mL 3 times daily.
You should not take this medication:
- if you are allergic to any ingredients of this medication
- if you are taking β-blockers
- if you have abnormal heart rhythms or an irregular heartbeat
- if you have hypertrophic obstructive cardiomyopathy
