How does this medication work?
This medication is a lipid-based synthetic analog of Thymine or Vitamin B1 with greater bioavailability than other Thiamine salts. It is dephosphorylated by ecto-alkaline phosphatases to S-benzoylthiamine in the intestinal mucosa, which is then hydrolyzed to thiamine by liver thioesterases. It helps in the synthesis of purine and pyrimidine which are necessary for the production of blood and its component. Methylcobalamin acts as a cofactor for enzyme methionine synthase, which transfers methyl groups for the regeneration of methionine from homocysteine. In anemia, it increases blood cell production by promoting nucleic acid synthesis in the bone marrow and by promoting maturation and division of erythrocytes. Pregabalin is a GABA analog and binds to the voltage-gated calcium channels in the central nervous system. This causes a reduced release of neurotransmitters like serotonin, dopamine, substance P thus slowing down nerve signals. Vitamin B helps in the production of myelin, a substance that protects nerve fibers and rejuvenates damaged nerve cells.
