About Phenoxybenzamine
Phenoxybenzamine belongs to the class of medicine called alpha blocker and is used to treat conditions like high blood pressure, hypertension, and sweating caused by a particular tumor. It has been also used as a peripheral vasodilator to treat hypertension as already mentioned. It relaxes and helps in increasing the width of the blood vessels in order to facilitate blood flow. In many cases of complex regional pain syndrome, or cases of prostatic hyperplasia is used as a corrective drug for treating and curing. It is usually administered orally. Phenoxybenzamine increases blood flow to the skin and lowers supine and blood pressure.
Side effects of Phenoxybenzamine include upsetting of the stomach even leading to diarrhea in some instances, dizziness or nausea, drowsiness. In rare cases sexual inadequacies in males and allergic reactions like rash, itching, etc can be experienced. Phenoxybenzamine has its most efficient use as anti-hypertensive due to its property in decreasing the vasoconstrtiction caused by adrenaline.
