About Polyclav 625Mg Tablet

Polyclav is used to treat infections of the lungs and airways, skin, middle ear, sinuses, and the urinary tract. It also helps in curing conditions like tonsillitis, pneumonia, bronchitis and gonorrhoea. Polyclav when used with an antibiotic clarithromycin treats stomach ulcers.

To make sure this tablet is safe for you, inform your doctor if you have:

  • Asthma
  • Liver or kidney disease
  • Mononucleosis
  • A history of diarrhoea caused by taking antibiotics, food or drug allergies.

Call your doctor at once if you have the following after using this medicine:

  • Diarrhoea, fever, cold or flu symptoms, cough, troubled breathing.
  • Swollen glands, severe skin irritation and rashes or joint pain.
  • Jaundice, confusion or weakness, dark coloured urine.
  • Numbness, severe tingling, pain or muscle weakness.
  • Easy bruising or unusual bleeding of nose, mouth, vagina, or rectum.

    How does this medication work?

    This tablet is a combination medicine of two drugs. Amoxicillin is a Penicillin antibiotic and inhibits the transfer of a peptide group in the transpeptidation process. As a result the bacterium is not able to build cell walls and is killed. Clarithromycin is a beta-lactamase inhibitor also called as suicide inhibitor. It bind to the beta-lactamase enzyme covalently, and causes the permeation of the outer layer. Thus, altogether, they both leads to bactericidal and kill the bacteria.
