About Potassium Citrate

Potassium Citrate is commonly administered as a dietary supplement. It helps in maintaining the heath and functioning of our vital internal organs and prevents diseases. It is also used as a urinary alkalizer in the treatment of gout and kidney stones. It helps in decreasing the levels of uric acid in the body by increasing the citrate and potassium levels in the body as well as raising the pH level of urine

Potassium Citrate is contraindicated in the case of people suffering from diabetic ketoacidosis, Addison’s disease, high amount of potassium in the blood, heart failures, compression of the esophagus, ulcers from stomach acid, stomach muscle paralysis, allergies to potassium and citric acid, bleeding of the stomach or intestines and kidney failures. It also can cause complications in case of interactions with drugs like antacids containing aluminum, blood pressure drugs, anticholinergics, angiotensin blockers and certain heart medications. Complications that can arise from the usage of Potassium Citrate include paralysis, abdominal pain, allergic reaction, diarrhea, nausea, vomiting, etc. The complications that can occur is not restricted too the ones mentioned earlier and therefore it is recommended that prior to using the drug consultation with a doctor familiar with your medical history should be done.
