How does this medication work?
This medication is a multidrug composition containing Alpha Lipoic Acid, Folic Acid, Methylcobalamin, Pregabalin, and Vitamin B6 (Pyridoxine). Thus it follow multiple mechanisms. Alpha-lipoic acid is generally involved in the oxidative decarboxylations of keto acids and also present in some organisms as a growth factor. It is found to have existence in two enantiomeric forms: the R-enantiomer and the S-enantiomer. It is found to reduce the GLUT-4s cells' expression, which is responsible for glucose uptake, and thus leads to reduced insulin sensitivity. Folic acid helps in the synthesis of purine and pyrimidine which are necessary for the production of blood and its component. Methylcobalamin acts as a cofactor for enzyme methionine synthase, which transfers methyl groups for the regeneration of methionine from homocysteine. In anaemia, it increases blood cell production by promoting nucleic acid synthesis in the bone marrow and by promoting maturation and division of erythrocytes. Lastly, Pregabalin binds to the voltage-gated calcium channels in the central nervous system. This causes a reduced release of neurotransmitters like serotonin, dopamine, substance P thus slowing down nerve signals. Altogether, medicine alleviates disease symptoms.
