How does this medication work?
This medication is a proton pump inhibitor drug and binds to H+/K+-exchanging ATPase in gastric parietal cells, resulting in blockage of acid secretion. Also, it enters into the organism and forms the free radical. A concentration gradient is created in the organism due to alteration in the molecule and promotes the influx of the molecule. Thus, the free radical and the altered molecule will interfere with the DNA synthesis and stops the growth of the organism. Lastly, it also stops the growth of bacteria by inhibiting protein synthesis. It binds reversibly to the 50S ribosomal subunits which prevent peptidyl transferase activity which in turn interferes with the translocation process thus preventing peptide chain elongation.
