Levera 500 MG Tablet Side Effect

My 19 year old son is undergoing treatment for seizures. Previously he was taking levera 500 mg tablet. Now since last 8 months neurologist prescribed brivazen 75 mg. Since then I feel like a lot of behavior changes are happening in him. Aggression, mood swings, and is not able to concentrate in any work. Are the side effects of brivazen worse than levera? The doctor has said that this medicine will last for 3 years. I told the doc about all these symptoms but he did not consider such side effects. He believe that these side effects are not there, but I am feeling like this because of brivazen. Should we switch from brivazen to levera again? please help me and suggest what should I do?

Brivaracetam can surely cause mood swing though less than levetiracetam. However, occasionally levetiracetam can cause less behavioral disturbances when compared to brivaracetam .there are many antiseizure drugs that does not worsen mood or anxiety like lamotrigine or carbamazepine. These two drugs rather stabilize mood. Alternatively, levetiracetam can be restarted after discussing with a neurologist as levetiracetam dose can be increased more that what your son was taking.

The dose of levera that you are taking is too less and if its effective for you its ok you can continue it for time required but has it been advised to be taken for life long because there are not many indications for same.

Hello, the dosage is not clear to me, tegritol is usually administered as 10 mg/kg body weight three times a day, and levera can be given upto 3 gm / day. Unfortunately levera is known to have behaviour problems and aggressiveness could be its side effect. You will require review of your medication and I suggest you consult your doctor who prescribed these drugs to you or come back to me with full details of the seizures and medication in correct dosage.

Hello I had one episode of seizure on 2016 aug since then I had levetiracetam 1000xr once a day for 3 year and then levetiracetam 750xr once a day and now I am taking levetiracetam 500xr once a day and remylin d3 once a day. I have pain in hand, leg and feeling twice in hand and leg and have hypnic jerk while sleeping and have feeling like I will drop material. And also getting scared for fraction of second with noise or accidentally seeing any object (shadow of myself, cars) and when I eat food, juice so I feel normal but after half hour again all this thing starting. My vitamin b12 is 759 (normal range 200-770) vitamin d3 is 48 (normal range (30-100) is this because of seizure problem or something else? And why my hang and leg is paining?

Neurologist,
Hello, though this kind of problem as a side effect of levera is not recorded and as you have been taking medicine for years and the dose has been decreased the chance of side effects of this nature are less. This is a kind of startle syndrome and does not seem to be part of seizures or side effects some medicine I think adequate rest and proper sleep may get rid both of your pain and startle syndrome, best to review after 2 weeks.

Mild depression can be treated without medications by trying psychotherapy methods like cognitive behavioural therapy. Usually moderate and severe depressive symptoms require medications along with CBT. Good luck

I have prescribed levacetam 500 mg tablet how does it reacts with alcohol and smoking?

It is recommended that you do not drink alcohol because it does reduce your seizure threshold thus making you more likely to have a seizure or a fit and lower the effect of the medication levetiracetam. Smoking is also recommended to be stopped due to many reasons. I hope you are able to do it. We can certainly help clarify any concerns you may have. Look forward to hearing from you.
