About Quinapril
Quinapril falls under a class of drugs known as ACE inhibitors (an angiotensin-converting enzyme). It is used to treat high blood pressure and heart failure. By maintaining blood pressure levels it prevents chances of heart attacks, strokes and kidney problems. It functions by relaxing the blood vessels so that there is more easy flow of blood.
On using Quinapril you may experience side effects such as dry cough, nausea, vomiting, dizziness, drowsiness, rash, joint and muscle pains. Severe reactions include high potassium levels, irregular heartbeat, fainting, extreme muscle tiredness, abdominal pain, chest pain and diarrhoea. Notify your doctor if your reactions persist or worsen over time.
Before using this medication tell your doctor if you have any of these conditions. If you are allergic to Quinapril, if you have any other allergies, you have a history of swelling/ liver disease/ high levels of potassium/ heart disease/ kidney transplant, you are pregnant or are breastfeeding a baby, you are taking any prescription or non-prescription drugs.
This medication is available in oral tablet form. The usual dosage recommended is about 10/20 mg once a day for hypertension and 5 mg twice a day for other conditions.

How does this medication work?
This medication prevents angiotensin-converting enzyme which is responsible for the catalysis of angiotensin II from angiotensin I. Angiotensin II accelerates blood pressure. Therefore when angiotensin production is lessened, plasma concentrations of aldosterone also decrease. Thus potassium rises in the blood and more sodium is excreted through the urine.
