About Rabesec Ls Capsule

Rabesec Ls Capsule is a combination medication, primarily used for treating ulcerative GERD. It is also prescribed for erosive healing, maintenance of ulcerative GERD, duodenal ulcers, irritable bowel syndrome and chronic gastritis. Recently, it has also come to be used in the treatment of hypersecretory conditions that include Zollinger-Ellison syndrome.

On using Rabesec Ls Capsule the associated side effects that you may suffer from are disorientation, delirium, the elevation of thyroid-stimulating hormone (TSH), rhabdomyolysis, bullous, erythema multiforme, drug-induced diarrhoea, twitching, tremor, weight gain or akathisia.

In certain severe cases, you may experience jaundice, interstitial pneumonia, tardive dyskinesia, gynecomastia (a disorder of the endocrine system where there is an enlargement of the male breast size). In the latter case it will be necessary for you to seek medical attention.

Before using this medication it is advised that you consult your doctor and tell him/her if you had/have or are:

  • Pregnant, or are planning to become pregnant.
  • Nursing a baby
  • Taking any prescriptive or over the counter drugs, herbals medications or dietary supplements.
  • A recent surgery or are scheduled for one in the near future.
  • Pheochromocytoma or gastrointestinal perforation.
  • A history of cancer-related disease.
  • A history of epilepsy or any other kind of seizures.
  • Allergic to any medicine, food or substance.

The dosage of this medication will be as prescribed by your doctor as per the severity of your condition, your age, gender and overall medical history. But commonly a dose of 25 mg of this medicine is prescribed which needs to be taken three times in a day. Results may start to show within an hour or two of using. In case of drug overdose notify your physician right away.

    How does this medication work?

    This medicine is a combination of Levosulpiride and Rabeprazole. These two belongs to neuroleptic and PPI class respectively. Thus this medicine works via the dual mechanism.

    Firstly, it works by selectively binding to dopamine receptors in the brain and the periphery. This action results in an increased tone of muscles in the gastrointestinal tract. Secondly, it binds to H+/K+-exchanging ATPase in gastric parietal cells, resulting in blockage of acid secretion.

      • Interaction with Alcohol

        Avoid or limit the uptake of alcohol while taking this medicine as the risk of adverse effects are increasingly high. Contact your doctor if an excess of drowsiness is experienced.
      • Interaction with Others

        • Heart Diseases This medicine should be used with caution in patients suffering from a disease of the heart and blood vessels. You may require an adjusted dose and safety monitoring to safely use this medicine.
        • Gastrointestinal Bleeding This medicine should be used with extreme caution in patients suffering from perforation and bleeding of the stomach and the intestine. Report any instance of fever with chills, nausea, vomiting, presence of blood in stool to the doctor.
        • Prolactin Imbalance This medicine should not be used in patients having an abnormal level of the hormone prolactin. Breast cancer due to a high level of prolactin should be ruled out before treatment with this medicine is initiated.
        • Neuroleptic Malignant Syndrome (Nms) Use of this medicine is not recommended if the patient suffers from Neuroleptic malignant syndrome. Introduction or reintroduction of this medicine should be done with caution in patients having a known history of this syndrome.
        • Asthma This medicine should be used with caution if you have asthma. Report any instances of difficulty in breathing, wheezing, chest pain etc to the doctor immediately.
      • Interaction with Lab Test

        Prolactin test

        Report the use of this medicine before undergoing a laboratory test to determine the levels of the hormone prolactin in the body. This medicine can interfere with the test and yield false positive results.
      • Interaction with Medicine

        Warfarin

        Concomitant use of this medication with warfarin causes an increase in INR and prothrombin time. This leads to abnormal bleeding and even death.

        Cyclosporine

        If concomitantly administered, this medication inhibits the metabolism of cyclosporine and creates its concentration to be over 50 times higher than its normal Cmax.

        Other medications

        Its action on GI motility could also be antagonized by concomitant use of narcotics, anticholinergic agents and analgesics.
