How does this medication work?
This syrup is used to kill protozoa and anaerobic bacteria. These are nitroimidazoles. This group of the drug becomes a free radical when it reacts with redox proteins of anaerobic organisms, and when this happen the bacterium DNA gets damaged. Ofloxacin belongs to the class fluoroquinolones. It works as a bactericidal by inhibiting the bacterial DNA gyrase enzyme, which is essential for DNA replication, transcription, repair, and recombination. This leads to expansion and destabilization of the bacterial DNA and causes cell death.
