How does this medication work?
This medication works as an antagonist of the alpha-1 adrenoreceptor selective for the prostrate. It binds to and blocks these receptors which lower intraurethral pressure, relaxes smooth muscles and improves urine flow. Dutasteride is primarily used as a form of treatment for enlarged prostate in males and also has secondary functionalities. The drug restricts the conversion of testosterone into dihydrotestosterone. DHT is responsible for the swelling of the prostate.
