About Sodium Fusidate

Sodium Fusidate is an antibiotic often prescribed to treat bone infections such as osteomyelitis which is caused by a particular bacterium called Staphylococcus aureus. It works by stopping the growth of the germs. Sodium Fusidate is also prescribed for other infections caused by staphylococcal germs, which result in skin infections. Before taking Sodium Fusidate you should ask your doctor to check you for any kind of liver problems or gallbladder problems. Tell your doctor if you are on any other medicines with or without a prescription. It is very important that your doctor knows if you are taking medicines for high cholesterol. If you are on a diet which is low in salt (sodium) for any medical reason tell your doctor.

    How does this medication work?

    This medication belongs to the class of a bacteriostatic antibiotic that prevents protein synthesis in the bacterial cell by preventing the translocation of the elongation factor G (EF-G) from the bacterial ribosome and also the transfer of amino acid from aminoacyl sRNA to the protein.
