Streptokinase
About Streptokinase
Streptokinase is used for the treatment of blood clots in the blood vessels, helping them to dissolve and enhance the smooth circulation of blood in the body. It is an emergency treatment that is administered to save the life of a patient who has just had a cardiac arrest. The medicine is known to be helpful in case of deep vein thrombosis in the legs, or pulmonic embolism, that is the formation of blood clots inside the lungs. Streptokinase may also treat any thickening or solidifying of blood inside the catheter that is inserted into blood vessels. The medicine is available only on prescription. You must take your doctor’s advice if you are pregnant, planning a pregnancy any time soon or a breastfeeding mother. You must make the doctor of any allergies that you may have to drugs, food or any other substances. It is important to also let your doctor know if you are on any other kind of prescription drugs, or dietary supplements that you may be taking, as a number of drugs may interact with Streptokinase and create unwanted complications. Streptokinase must be administered with caution in patients suffering from high blood pressure, kidney, liver or lung complications.
