Sulbactam

Prescription vs OTC : Prescription by Doctor required

About Sulbactam

Sulbactam aids in the treatment of certain types of bacterial infections. The drug is a penicillin antibiotic, which blocks the growth of the bacterial cell wall, thus killing it in the process.

The drug is not meant for consumption in case of those patients who have mononucleosis or suffer from liver issues. Persons who are allergic to any particular component in Sulbactam should avoid taking it as well.

To avoid any mishaps once you start using Sulbactam, provide your doctor with a detailed medical history, along with a list of the current medicines you are taking, both prescribed as well as non-prescribed. Also inform him about any herbal concoctions that you use.

The drug is generally administered through an injection at the clinic or hospital. In case of a missed dose, it is best that you consult your doctor.

Sulbactam is only meant for treatment of some types of bacterial infections, thus it should not be used for viral infection treatment. Make sure to complete the entire course, as an incomplete course may not cure the infection and hence make it more difficult to treat.

Certain side effects that may occur as a result of Sulbactam consumption are bleeding, soreness, pain, rashes along with redness of the skin, ulceration a bit of scarring and soreness.
