About Tegaserod

Tegaserod is used for the treatment of chronic constipation and sometimes other disorders like Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS). It helps to process of relieving oneself by acting on the nerves of the rectum and colon. However, this medicine cannot be administered to you if you get an allergic reaction to Tegaserod or frequently suffer from diarrhoea. You are not advised to take Tegaserod if you have undergone gallbladder removal procedures, suffer from bile duct problems, serious liver problems or kidney malfunctions. You must take precautions if you are pregnant, planning a pregnancy any time soon or a breastfeeding mother. You should also inform the doctor if you have low blood pressure, suffer from dehydration or if you are taking any other kinds of prescription drugs or dietary supplements. You must avoid the consumption of alcohol, caffeine, smoking or tobacco during the course of the treatment.

    It acts as a 5-HT4 partial receptor agonist that combines human 5-HT4 with really high affinity. It possesses an average affinity for the 5-HT1 receptors. Thus, it acts as an agonist to neuronal 5-HT4 receptors. It triggers the release of neurotransmitters from the sensory neurons such as calcitonin gene-related peptide.
