About Ticlopidine
Ticlopidine is a platelet aggregation inhibitor. It reduces risk of stroke and blood clots in patients by thinning the blood. The most serious side effects of this drug are those that affect the blood cells. This may be a life-threatening side effect but rarely occurs in people. The most common side effects include diarrhoea, nausea, dyspepsia, rash, abdominal pain and increase in cholesterol, liver enzymes, triglycerides and bleeding.
The use of Ticlopidine is contraindicated in anyone with an increased risk of bleeding, a history of haematological disease, severe liver disease, a history of allergic reaction to this group of medicines. Because of the increased risk of bleeding, patients taking Ticlopidine should discontinue the medication about 10–14 days before a surgery. If you are pregnant or breastfeeding, discuss with your doctor the risks and benefits of taking this medicine before starting the course.
The usual dosage of Ticlopidine recommended to patients is 250 gm, taken with food. Do not take this drug longer than or in more amounts than prescribed by your doctor.

Active metabolite formed after the biotransformation of the primary constituent of this medication causes prevention when it comes to combining with adenosine diphosphate (ADP) to platelet receptor thus weakening ADP moderated activation of glycoprotein GPIIb/IIIa complex.
