How does this medication work?
This medication is composed of magaldrate, simethicone and oxetacaine. Magaldrate is an antacid drug that neutralizes gastric acid and increases gastric pH which in turn inactivates pepsin. Simethicone is an antifoaming and antiflatulent agent which decreases gas in the GI tract by decreasing the surface tension of gas bubbles thus allowing them to coalesce and be expelled. Oxetacaine inhibits the release of the gastrin hormone, which in turn reduces the secretion of gastric juices.
