The Conjunctival Smear test is used to detect and diagnose any kind of infections found in the conjunctiva (The region, which covers the front of the eye and also lines the inside of the eyelids). It can also be used to identify inflammatory issues near the conjunctiva. A smear is taken from the insides of the eyelids and used for this test. Conjunctivitis is the inflammation of the conjunctiva, a thin, a delicate membrane that covers the eyeball and lines the eyelid. Conjunctivitis is an extremely common eye problem because the conjunctiva is continually exposed to microorganisms and environmental agents that can cause infections or allergic reactions. Other names for conjunctivitis include pink eye and red eye.
