Culture and Sensitivity Tests are used on a wide range of samples to assess the type of pathogens present. The sample is obtained and cultured to grow bacterial colonies. This is the Culture part of the test. The conies are identified if possible. These colonies are then exposed to various antibiotics to assess their resistance or susceptibility. This is the Sensitivity part of the test. Together, the Culture and Sensitivity Test can give valuable insight to the infection a patient is suffering from. It can also be used to view the effects of an antibiotic on the patient.
