Sir I have already asked the question about the proper timing to take gemer 1 & you have answered it for which i'm grateful. But another doctor advised me to have the tablet 20 mins ahead of breakfast. So I am little confused here.
Will it be cleared?
Hello, thanks for the query.
Tablets containing glimiperide are usually advised to be taken 30 to 45 minutes before food. Because this drug is supposed to stimulate beta cells in pancreas to secrete insulin. By taking the the medicine early, it is able to make insulin available by the time food taken in gets converted to glucose.
However, when a combination of glimiperide with metformin is taken, there is nothing like I should be taken before food only. Ideally even the combination should be preferably taken 30 to 40 minutes before food. But in some persons due metformin there may be gastrointestinal disturbances when taken on empty stomach. In that situation the same (combination tablets) can be taken after food. So there is no need to get confused. There is no such hard and fast rule about dosing. I hope the matter is clear. Thanks.
Both statements are correct. Usually advised to take before 20-30 min. Before food but if you feel abdominal symptoms like bloating, belching etc the you should take it after food.
