The chances of complications are higher in the case of silicone gel implants which involve the use of silicone gels as compared to the saline implants. There can be leakage from the silicone breast implants which can result in scarring of the breast tissues. There may also be a silent rupture of the silicone gel implant. An MRI is often advised three years post the surgery and then after every two years interval to know the status of the silicone gel implant.

The saline implants and the silicone gel implants are the breast implant used in breast enhancement. As the name suggests, in the case of saline implants, sterile water or saline is used as the filling while in the case of silicone gel implants, the shell is filled with silicone gel. In both saline and silicone gel breast implants, the shell used is a silicone shell.
Pregnant and lactating women should go for breast augmentation only after a proper discussion with their attending physician.

The breast enhancement surgery may interfere with the breastfeeding (some women do experience difficulties in breastfeeding their child). There are instances when a woman has experienced no sensation around their nipples following the surgery (though often temporary). It is best to avoid breast enhancement surgery if you are a pregnant or a lactating woman.

Not everyone can undergo breast enhancement surgery. As indicated by the FDA or the Food and Drug Administration, a girl below 18 years is physically unfit for breast enhancement or augmentation. For a silicone gel implant, a woman should be at least 22 years, while for a saline implant, a woman should be 18 years if not less. Below 18 years, breast enhancement surgery may not produce the desired results or trigger deleterious consequences as the breasts are not fully developed and matured.
