Taking Care of Your Newborn

Newborns usually sleep for more than 16 hours a day as it is essential for the development of their brain. However, they rarely sleep for more than 2 to 4 hours at a stretch. Thus, it can disturb your sleep as a parent and it is essential that you plan how to go about your day for the first few months after the baby is born.

Nursing your child has been known to burn calories, in certain cases even up to 400 calories. It has been noticed that on an average, a mother who exclusively nurses her baby is more more fit and lean. Breastfeeding empowers the health of the baby as well as the mother.

All babies do not respond the same way to the skin contact or vocal sounds, which you may use to bond with them. However, external sounds such as rattling a toy or its light will work well with most of the babies. In case, your baby seems disinterested, it may be a good idea to try and distract them with these sounds and light.

As per the research conducted, it has been established that sleeping on belly can cause sudden infant death syndrome (SIDS) in newborns and if the baby is wrapped in a blanket, he or she is even more susceptible to it.
