Bradycardia is a particular abnormality of the heart where the rate becomes very slow and goes below 60 BPM. A normal heart rate ranges within 50 to 90 BPM when at rest and a heartbeat rate of 40 to 50 BPM is also considered to be normal during sleep. When an average person has below 60 BPM heart rate, then it can be said that he or she has bradycardia. However, a heart rate below 60 BPM is very much normal and healthy for people like athletes, and physically active individuals.

Though there is no particular reason found behind bradycardia, it is the various heart diseases and heart-related issues that in the majority of cases results in this irregular heart rate. Some of the common cardiac related causes are heart tissue damage, heart disorder, heart tissue infection, etc. Though various non-cardia causes are also present, such as certain medications or physical conditions like thyroid, etc., which can result in this condition but they are secondary.
