Photo rejuvenation can be used for
1 of 5
Photo rejuvenation can be used to treat a number of skin conditions that result from excessive exposure to harmful UV radiation or aging. It can target melanin deposits in the skin to make age spots, sun spots and blemishes fade from any part of the body. This treatment can also heal dilated blood vessels and reduce rosacea and control flushing. In addition, by stimulating collagen production, it can improve skin texture by temporarily reducing oil and minimizing pores.
Photo rejuvenation is quite painful
2 of 5
This treatment is not painful, but it might cause mild discomfort. This typically feels like a slight sting and is usually quite tolerable. At the beginning of the procedure, the doctor will apply a cool gel over the part of the skin being treated and the direct pulses of light to the area. Once the treatment is finished, the gel will be wiped off and a moisturizer will be applied. In the case of any swelling, applying a cooling pack to the area can help relieve it. You should be able to use makeup immediately after the procedure.
Photo rejuvenation makes the skin more sensitive to the sun
3 of 5
This procedure does not make your skin more sensitive to sunlight but it is not advisable to undergo this treatment in the summer. This is because sunlight is strongest in the summer and skin can colour easily in this season. Exposing your skin excessively to sunlight after this procedure can also reduce the length of time it is effective for. To keep your skin blemish free after the procedure, using a good sunscreen and wearing a hat to protect your skin is a must. To maintain collagen production, this procedure should ideally be repeated on an annual or bi-annual basis.
Photo rejuvenation uses radiation therapy to fight ageing.
4 of 5
This minimally invasive form of age-defying treatment uses lightwaves to fight skin damage. These light waves target melanin deposits in the skin and breaks them up thus making them less visible and allowing the body to absorb them. This form of light energy can also be absorbed by the skin tissue to help boost melanin production. Photo rejuvenation can take anywhere between 15- 45 minutes depending on the amount of skin being covered.
Photo rejuvenation has negligible side effects
5 of 5
As long as you are treated with a qualified doctor, this is considered a relatively safe procedure. There are negligible side effects to photo rejuvenation. In most cases, side effects are temporary. These may include swelling at the site, redness, the appearance of small brown spots, bruising and superficial blisters. However, this procedure is not recommended for pregnant women as its effects have not been studied.
