It is not necessary that your dark coloured sunglass gives you greater protection than the light tinted ones. Many of the latter kind of sunglasses provide greater defence against UV rays than the dark tinted ones. It is not the ability to stop sunlight that matters, rather it is the ultraviolet protection factor that is more important. You must also put on a wide-brimmed hat that stops harmful rays from tanning your neck, ears and much of the face. Look out for the UVP factor on your sunglass before you buy it.

Brightly coloured fabrics protect the skin against UV rays much more than light coloured ones. Put on a densely woven but light-weight fabric that doesn't let light come through it. If you are moving around a lot outdoors, then always put on long pants that protect your thighs against UV rays. Collared dresses protect your neck from getting tanned. Look out for clothes having an UPF rating of more than 30 for protection from UV rays.

If you want to protect yourself from tanning, then you must apply sunscreen everyday, even during cloudy weather. While buying a sunscreen, always choose a broad spectrum sunscreen that not only protects you from tanning but also from skin ageing. Choose a sunscreen that has an SPF of more than 15. If you have a fair skin, then buy a sunscreen that has an SPF of 30 or more. To prevent overexposure and tanning, apply sunscreen on all the parts of your body.

Always wear protective clothing, even while you are exercising. It is tempting to wear very light and minimal clothes during workouts in the summer season. However, this does not help in preventing ourselves from getting tanned. If you are spending long hours playing golf, running, cricket in the sun, then the risk of exposure to UV rays significantly increases. Wear densely woven clothes that are light in weight and do not let sunlight to pass through.
