Tendonitis - What To Expect

Achilles tendinitis is the injury of Achilles tendon, large tendon at the back of the ankle. The back of the lower leg contains big calf muscles, which gets connected to the foot and gets inserted at the back of the heel with the help of the Achilles tendon. It is generally an overuse injury, but there are certain other factors which may increase the risk of sustaining the injury. These factors may include poor footwear, running uphill, and foot biomechanics.

Rotator cuff tendonitis is the most common form of tendonitis in the shoulder. Usually, the tendon of the supraspinatus muscle is involved in this type of tendinitis. The tendon of the infraspinatus muscle or other tendons of the rotator cuff may also get affected. This condition is more commonly seen in specific professions such as carpentry, welding, and painting. Sportspersons such as tennis players, squash players, and baseball players are also more likely to develop a rotator cuff tendonitis. De Quervain s tenosynovitis affects the tendons on the thumb side of the wrist. Patellar tendonitis affects the tendons of the knee. Posterior Tibial Tendonitis affects the tendons of the inner side of the ankle.

Jumper s knee, also known as Patellar tendonitis or Sinding-Larsen-Johansson disease, is the most common form of knee tendonitis. It may affect the patellar tendon at the lower edge of the kneecap or the quadriceps tendon at the upper edge of the kneecap. Basketball players and distance runners are most likely to get injured by jumper s knee.

Tendonitis is also known as tendinitis, which indicates an acute tendon injury accompanied by inflammation. The chronic form of tendonitis is known as tendinosis. Tendinosis is not accompanied by inflammation but it is caused due to degeneration at a cellular level. Paratenonitis is the inflammation of the outer layer of the tendon. Tenosynovitis occurs due to the inflammation of the tendon sheath, where muscle connects to the bone.
