Ovarian cysts are not cancerous. They are usually benign, and are mostly formed during the menstrual cycle. Two types of ovarian cysts are common- Corpus luteum and Follicle. Follicle cysts are formed when the ovum fails to break out of the sac, while Corpus luteum cysts develop once the sac is closed after the release of ovum. This leads to accumulation of fluid inside the sac. Both the types of cysts disappear on their own within a few weeks or months.
