The Thyroid Hormone

Missed periods are indicative of an overactive thyroid. Conversely, longer menstrual periods with heavier flow indicates hypothyroidism. Hypothyroidism also is accompanied by worse cramps than usual. Once it is diagnosed that the TH levels are not stable, taking treatment to properly regulate the TH is the only option to keep it in check. A delay of 21-35 days is the normal delay in periods due to hyperthyroidism. The menstrual cycle may happen around the same day every month or may be irregular. A cycle that lasts 2-7 days may be considered normal in a phase where the woman is experiencing under or over secretion of the thyroid hormone. A period that is delayed for more than 5 days is termed a delayed period . In such a case, it is advisable to consult a doctor.
